Virgo Art Coat

The Virgo Art Coat is a custom coat made for an amazing artist. The outer part of the coat is made from vintage wool, black lace, heavy tapestry fabrics, linen and silk. The lining is made from hand dyed cottons. I cut out large circles and quilted them on the coat to create my own fabric. The contrast between the black and white with the splashes of color is simply incredible. They entire hem is hand embroidered and I sewed on hundreds of buttons along the collar and hem. This is an incredibly full and heavy coat. I am so excited with how this piece turned out. Truly a wearable piece of art.

Woodland Series

8/19/2014

The past month I have desperately tried to continue to make time to do art. It has been really hard with all of the babysitting I have had to do over the summer as well as the influx of food that needs to be canned. Art has not been on my top priority even though it really should be. Creating and making time for myself always makes me more patient and balanced.
The Woodland Series started with the Owl piece and grew from there. I wanted to just paint. Get a brush to paper and it really didn't matter what the subject was. After the first two paintings, I decided to paint a series of forest animals to kind of celebrate my travels to the Oregon mountains this summer. We have spent a lot of time camping, hiking and fishing with our family and friends.

So here it is....

After a quick trip to the grocery store in Bend, OR, we headed west to Tumalo Falls. The clouds finally rolled in around 7 pm and we had to drive home over the Cascades in the rain.

What an adventure.

Day 92

Today I was finally able to get away. Get away from the kitchen and all the cooking I do. From the day to day and the wear it puts on a person to be stuck in one place for so long. I hit the open road with a friend and a van full of kids and we went on a grand adventure. It took almost an hour to drive through the dappled lit winding roads. We passed the forests of tall evergreens with 50 shades of green growing all around in grass, leaves, lichen and moss. This was contrasted by the sprinkles of white and purple wild flowers that made the inner girl want to pull over and pick a giant bouquet.

We arrived at 3 pools and parked and loaded up the 6 of us with all our gear. The plan was a long day of enjoying the river and the incredibly clear glassy water. We hiked down and claimed our section of grey rocky beach for the day and spread out. The kids were suited and all the floating devices blown up and ready for fun. The water was like ice but we managed to get in and out long enough to waste five hours of our day.

We built some solid childhood memories today. I got to paint with the river water as my medium. And best of all we got to get away.
