Get away from the kitchen and all the cooking I do. From the day to day and the wear it puts on a person to be stuck in one place for so long. I hit the open road with a friend and a van full of kids and we went on a grand adventure. It took almost an hour to drive through the dappled lit winding roads. We passed the forests of tall evergreens with 50 shades of green growing all around in grass, leaves, lichen and moss. This was contrasted by the sprinkles of white and purple wild flowers that made the inner girl want to pull over and pick a giant bouquet.
We arrived at 3 pools and parked and loaded up the 6 of us with all our gear. The plan was a long day of enjoying the river and the incredibly clear glassy water. We hiked down and claimed our section of grey rocky beach for the day and spread out. The kids were suited and all the floating devices blown up and ready for fun. The water was like ice but we managed to get in and out long enough to waste five hours of our day. We built some solid childhood memories today. I got to paint with the river water as my medium. And best of all we got to get away. "We Are All Aliens" Watercolor Mixed Media (acrylic pen, mirror, doll parts, thread, nails) on Canvas Board, 15x30 inches, 2014. Created for Mars Bizarre: An Alien and UFO Themed Group Show at the Rat Factory in Hollywood, CA, on March 21, 2014.
I have a show coming up in LA called Mars Bizarre: An Alien Show at the Rat Factory Gallery, in a few days. I ordered a wood panel canvas from Cascadian Canvas Craft last week and then got to work painting it. It sat in my studio with just the green on it for days as I thought about how I was going to pull my thoughts together. I wanted to make this piece about more about how we are all aliens, strange, and not belonging that about little green men from space. It still has an other worldly quality, but the mirror helps reflect the viewer and the room they are standing in. I hope it is received well in the art show. This piece definitely has a piece of my soul in it.
"We Are All Aliens" Watercolor Mixed Media on Wood Panel, 30x15 inches, 2014. I was out in the shop today creating lots of different things. I started about 7 different projects and only completed 2. This piece is a piece of wearable art jewelry that also has a functional sliding 4GB USB memory stick. I love making dual purposed and functional pieces.
I will be showing a lot of my Steampunk art at Stone Buddha in Silverton, Oregon for the month of March. I am working towards making a few new pieces to display there. This piece is called "Ancient Wisdom" and is made from all found objects and a modified USB. Yesterday and today I worked on a new Steampunk inspired sculpture. I decided to make a bee. So I strung together some beads from old pieces of jewelry, attached feet, wings, eyes and other bee elements and mounted it on a golden rose. The bee and the rose then were mounted in a broken vacuum tube and mounted in a hand turned hardwood base. The result is this enchanting little bee resting on a flower. So much love went into this little sculpture.
