I was recently commissioned to make a computer bag. I hand dyed the fabric then sewed the padded bag together with dividers and zippered pockets. After it was sewn I added leather handles and rings on the side for a shoulder strap. We loved how this turned out!

I decided to make a few of these portfolios for the upcoming holidays for all the kids in my life. I am making them out of old VHS cassette tape cases and DVD cases. This was my first attempt. I chose a large case and cut some leather to the size. I then spent the next 2 days freeform tooling it. This particular piece was for a dear friend of mine who is an artist. Her birthday is on the autumnal equinox so I tried to work that into my design. The sign of the Libra is at the top of the spine, then a sort of wood grain leads to the full moon over the harvest fields. This equinox celebrates the end of the light and longer periods of darkness. I added a tree in a new design to the front of the portfolio and a deep pressed labyrinth to the back for meditation. You can feel the grooves of the labyrinth with your finger. Inside I mounted a linen backed pencil holder, transferred an image of women's shoes on a carpet and hand bound a fine sketch book to fit perfectly in the case.
My hope is to make a few more of these gorgeous leather portfolios to sell on Etsy. If you are interested in a custom tooled portfolio, please email me at [email protected] |
